Napping on the Go

How to Get Your Baby to Sleep Anywhere

Our recent poll showed that many of you are curious about how to manage naps on the go. Let's explore how to get your baby to sleep anywhere, keep naps safe, and adjust your schedule after unexpected naps.

Daytime Naps vs Restorative Sleep: One comforting thing we found in our research is that daytime naps aren't the main source of "restorative sleep." If your baby misses a nap or naps at a different time, you can easily adjust the rest of the day's schedule. For example, if your baby misses a nap at 12:15 PM and doesn't sleep until 1:00 PM, you can extend the next two naps by about 30 minutes each to make up for it.

The 80/20 Nap Rule: Try following the 80/20 rule: aim for 80% of naps in an ideal environment and 20% in more flexible spaces (like a noisy restaurant). It helps to recreate your baby's home sleep environment as much as possible, such as using a sound machine, ensuring darkness, and finding a quiet area.

For instance, once our baby turned 4 months old, napping in the car seat became harder. Using our Nuna or Bugaboo stroller seats, which provide more room to stretch out, lay flat, and have a nearly blackout dream drape, works best for us.

Plan but Stay Flexible: While it's helpful to have a plan and communicate it with your partner or family members, the key is to stay flexible. Pay attention to your baby's cues and adapt as needed. Sometimes, even if you plan for a nap, your baby might stay wide awake. When this happens, be prepared with a bottle, a toy, and a sound machine. You might also try a quick version of the bedtime routine, like a diaper change, to help them settle down before they get too cranky.

Practice Makes Perfect: Most importantly, practice napping on the go. Don't let the fear of your baby becoming cranky keep you from enjoying outings with friends. Start with low-stakes outings, like a breakfast with a friend. Remember, your baby is learning to nap in new environments too. The better they get at it, the more fun you'll all have.

Yogasleep Hushh+ Sound Machine

The Yogasleep Hushh+ Sound Machine is an exceptional upgrade from the original Hushh+, offering more sleep sounds, wireless bluetooth connect-ability, and an extended battery life. This compact sound machine boasts 20 soothing sleep sounds and a wireless speaker, perfect for creating a calming sleep environment anywhere. The adjustable amber night light provides gentle illumination without disturbing your little one, and the device's wireless charging and long-lasting battery ensure uninterrupted soothing all night.

We bought the Yogasleep Hushh+ Sound Machine to replace a previous baby sound machine, and it exceeded our expectations. Despite its small size, the battery life is impressive, lasting over 5 days with 3-4 hours of daily use. The sound quality is excellent, and the Bluetooth feature is a great addition, allowing us to play different lullabies or use it as a music speaker. The buttons are well-made and easy to press, even for a baby, and the lock mechanism is very handy. The construction is solid and durable, surviving multiple drops without any visible wear. The adjustable silicone strap is sturdy and of much higher quality than other Yogasleep products we've tried. Overall, the Yogasleep Hushh+ Sound Machine is a reliable and versatile sleep aid that has significantly improved our bedtime routine.
